Thresholds

Circular Doorway Exterior

The threshold doesn't change you. It reveals you.

At the Point of Transition

When the familiar no longer tells the whole story, and what is emerging has not yet found its form.

Sometimes a chapter is completing. Sometimes something that still functions no longer fits as it once did. And sometimes the first sign of change is quieter: a possibility, direction, or way of living begins to make itself felt before you know what it asks of you.

You may be standing between what has been established and what is only beginning to become visible.

You may recognise yourself here:

  • A life phase, relationship, role, or professional chapter has reached a point of completion.

  • Something in your life still functions outwardly, yet no longer carries the same meaning or sense of fit.

  • A significant decision is approaching, and the available options do not seem to contain the whole question.

  • You know something needs attention, and forcing an answer would move faster than your understanding.

  • Something new is becoming perceptible: a possibility, a direction, a way of living. It is not yet clear enough to name, organise, or turn into a plan.

  • You have already reflected, spoken to trusted people, researched, or sought advice, yet something essential remains without language.

You may already understand the facts. What is needed now is a different quality of attention: enough space to see how the parts relate, what your experience is already showing you, and what is beginning to ask for participation.

Thresholds is designed for moments like these.

What is Thresholds?

Thresholds is a structured reflective space for people navigating significant transitions.

It creates a precise and attentive space in which a transition can be understood before it is reduced to an answer. The work looks at what has shifted, what still carries meaning, what has reached its limit and what may be beginning to emerge.

Through dialogue, reflective inquiry, observation, and shared exploration, participants develop a fuller reading of their situation and a clearer sense of where they stand in relation to it.

The work is deep, but it does not need to become heavy. There is room for silence, humour, simplicity, careful questioning, and the possibility simply to be with what is present long enough for something real to become visible.

The Threshold

A threshold is more than a change in circumstances. It is a moment when an established way of understanding or navigating life no longer accounts for the whole of what you are living.

The previous structure may still be present. You may still be inside the role, relationship, responsibility, or way of life that has guided you. Yet your relationship to it has changed.

This in-between space can feel uncertain because the next reference is still forming. It can also be generative. When automatic movement slows, experience becomes available in a different way: for recognition, relationship, integration, and discernment.

What becomes possible

People who have done this work describe something that is difficult to name before it happens:

What people describe is a clearer, more grounded relationship with their own experience and discernment.

  • A fuller view of what is changing and what remains.

  • A clearer sense of where you stand within the situation.

  • Greater access to your own discernment: what you actually know, separate from what others expect.

  • Space to distinguish what is completing, what fits differently, and what may be beginning.

  • A considered way of staying with uncertainty while your understanding develops.

  • A grounded position from which to consider what comes next.

From that ground, different forms of movement become available. A decision may take shape. Something may be completed with recognition. An existing life may be inhabited differently. A possibility may begin to find form.

Meaning, judgement and direction remain with you.

The Movement

Thresholds follows a carefully structured movement through the territory of transition. The work is not a formula to complete. It gives language and form to movements that often arise naturally when a person has enough space to attend to what is happening.

  • Recognising what has already shifted.

  • Seeing where familiar reference points have reached their limit.

  • Pausing habitual movement long enough for perception to widen.

  • Integrating what experience already contains.

  • Recognising a clearer place from which to speak, decide, or act.

  • Allowing movement to arise without requiring complete certainty.

For some people, this also opens a further horizon: something sensed as possibility begins to enter relationship with life, inviting conscious participation before it finds its eventual form.

Relationship, Reciprocity, and Ayni

What begins to emerge does not take form in isolation. It enters into relationship: with your experience, with other people, with circumstances, with nature, and with the wider world in which your life is taking place.

Within the Andean understanding that also informs this work, Ayni names a living quality of reciprocity. It invites attention to the exchange between a person and life: what is being received, what is being offered, what asks for response, and how participation changes the relationship itself.

In Thresholds, Ayni is present as a relational principle. It offers another way of sensing how something moves from potential into emergence, relationship, participation, and eventually form.

Where appropriate, symbolic or nature-based practices informed by these traditions may be offered as experiential invitations. They are shared with respect for their cultural origins and in support of individual autonomy.

The work is accessible to all, regardless of prior familiarity with Andean traditions, symbolic practice, or spiritual frameworks.

How Maria Clara works

Maria Clara brings a precise quality of attention to each encounter rather than a fixed method to apply.

Her way of working begins with what is already present: what the person is carrying, what they already sense, what has not yet found language. She listens beyond the presenting question, attending to what is forming beneath it.

She holds the specific and the wider picture simultaneously, noticing relationships, tensions, and patterns that can be difficult to see from inside a situation. She accompanies the enquiry closely enough that what is already becoming visible grows more accessible. Meaning and direction remain with the person.

People describe this quality of accompaniment as precise and warm, attentive and unhurried. There is room in the work for silence, humour, simplicity, and the kind of careful questioning that opens space rather than narrowing it.

The work moves at the pace of what is real.

Why Maria Clara

She has worked with individuals and groups across cultures, languages, and very different life circumstances.

Her professional experience spans individual accompaniment, small groups, and sustained learning with cohorts of more than one hundred people, online and in person. She has held senior teaching and faculty responsibilities in international educational settings. → Presence

She has worked with people navigating professional reinvention, significant personal transitions, and moments that called for careful, sustained orientation.

The work has also crossed her own life. This gives it a particular congruence.

The convergence of lived experience, reflective practice, perceptive attention, and relational ways of knowing is what Thresholds is built from. It continues to develop through the encounters in which the work is lived.

This territory was present in her work long before it had a name.

Across many different encounters, a particular way of working gradually became clear: listening beyond the presenting question, noticing relationships and tensions beneath the surface, holding the wider picture in view, and allowing what has not yet found language to become perceptible. That way of working is what Thresholds is. → About Maria Clara

Ways to experience the work

Online Programme

Some questions become clearer in the presence of others facing the same territory. Certain things only become visible when they are shared.

Alongside dialogue and reflective inquiry, people may occasionally receive optional symbolic or nature-based invitations that support reflection and integration. These are offered as open invitations, accessible to all.

The programme unfolds through six live online gatherings. Sessions are held in confidence. The rhythm of the programme allows time between gatherings for reflection, observation, and engagement with the questions that emerge through the work.

Available in English, German, and Spanish.

Six weeks   Live online   Maximum twelve people per group

Each cohort is intentionally held small. Twelve is the number at which the quality of attention this work requires can be sustained.

Cohort dates are announced in advance. To be informed of the next cohort, register your interest below.

Thresholds Private

Thresholds Private is a confidential, one-to-one accompaniment for individuals whose situation calls for sustained attention, continuity, and complete privacy over time.

Some transitions are too specific, too complex, or too personal to work through in a group setting. Thresholds Private is for those moments: where the work needs to remain entirely between two people, where the situation asks for a sustained relationship that can hold what unfolds as things develop over time.

The work follows the same principles as the programme. The format is different: duration, depth of continuity, and attention calibrated entirely to what is specific and present in this particular situation.

Particularly suited to significant personal transitions, complex decisions, or circumstances where sustained individual accompaniment makes the essential difference.

Six sessions   Online or in person   Up to three months   English, German, Spanish
